Privacy Policy
Last updated October 24, 2026
This policy explains how Yodis LLC (“Yodis”, “we”, “us”) handles personal information when you visit yodis.ai, subscribe, or use the Yodis desktop app and service. Yodis is offered to residents of the United States.
The short version: your vault lives on your computer. Our servers read your content only to sync it or to answer a request, and they keep facts about your notes, not their text. We don’t sell your information and we don’t show ads.
What we collect
When you visit yodis.ai. The site uses no analytics and no tracking cookies. Like most websites, our web server keeps standard access logs (your IP address, browser type, the page and the time) for security and troubleshooting. If you join the waitlist or the newsletter, the email address you enter goes to Kit, our email list provider.
When you subscribe. Payments run through Stripe. Stripe collects your card details, name, email and billing address. We see your name, email, billing address, what you bought and whether payment succeeded. We never see your full card number.
Your account. We keep your first and last name, email address, a username, your plan, and the date your account was created. We give you an API key for the desktop app and store only a scrambled form of it (a hash), so we can’t read the key itself.
Your notes. Your Obsidian vault lives on your computer, and that copy is the only full copy. To find the notes that answer a question, our servers keep information derived from each note:
- its title, file path, tags, links to other notes, and parent notes listed in its frontmatter;
- a fingerprint of its content (a hash), used to tell when a note has changed;
- embeddings: lists of numbers that represent what the note and each of its sections are about, with each section’s position in the note;
- when the note was last synced, and any suggested links between notes that you’ve dismissed.
We do not store the text of your notes.
What the app sends us. The desktop app sends content to our servers when you use Yodis, and we use it and then discard it:
- When your vault syncs, we read each new or changed note to compute the information above.
- When you ask a question or use another AI feature, the app sends the text of the relevant notes for that request.
- When you use the learning features, the app sends the material you choose to learn from, such as a PDF, a transcript or other source text. We keep the title of each source you’ve used and how it was organized, not its contents.
Some of this work runs in the background. While it waits, the content sits in an encrypted queue for up to 2 hours, and a finished result (such as a syllabus or the text read from a PDF) waits, encrypted, for up to 1 hour until the app picks it up. Both are deleted once used. Content you send is never written to our database, and our logs never contain it.
Usage. For each AI request we record its type, time, the AI model used, how long it took, the amount of AI processing it used and its cost, so we can apply your plan’s monthly limits.
Intake. Notes we take during your intake session are used only to build and support your vault. Where intake runs through our web service, the interview transcript and the summary built from it are deleted about 24 hours after your vault is generated, and an interview that’s left unfinished is deleted after 7 days without activity.
Support. If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you.
Technical logs. Our servers log each request (the time, the endpoint, the result, how long it took, your account number and your app’s version) to keep the service running and secure. When something fails, the log records technical details of the error. Logs never contain your note text or other content you send, and they’re kept for a limited time.
How we use it
We use your information to provide and bill for the service, apply your plan’s limits, answer support requests, send you service and billing emails, and keep Yodis secure. We don’t use it for advertising and we don’t sell or rent it to anyone.
Who helps us run Yodis
We share information only with the companies that run parts of the service for us, and only what each needs:
- Stripe processes payments and manages your subscription.
- Google Cloud hosts our servers and database in the United States.
- Anthropic provides the AI model. The content needed for a request (note text, source material, PDF pages or your intake answers) is sent to Anthropic’s API to produce the result. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, it does not use this data to train its models, and it keeps the data only for a limited period under its own retention policy.
- Kit stores waitlist and newsletter email addresses.
- Our email provider handles messages you send to support@yodis.ai.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our customers or Yodis.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and the data derived from your notes while you’re a customer. After your subscription ends, or when you ask us to delete your account, we delete it within 30 days. This also applies to intake material. Copies in our database backups are removed as those backups expire on their regular schedule. Stripe keeps payment records as financial regulations require.
Your choices
You can ask us at any time to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email support@yodis.ai from the address on your account. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any newsletter email.
California residents
If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it (this policy describes it), to ask us to delete it or correct it, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. To make a request, email support@yodis.ai.
Security
We encrypt traffic to our servers, store API keys only as hashes, keep note text out of our database, and limit who can reach production systems. No system is perfectly secure, and we’ll tell you promptly if a breach affects your information.
Children
Yodis is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we’ll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect and update the date at the top of this page.
